Oliver Jeffers is a highly acclaimed talent in picture books. He graduated from The University of Ulster in 2001 with First Class honours and has since exhibited his paintings around the world. His outstanding talent has already been recognised by several high-profile awards, including the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Gold Award, the Blue Peter Book of the Year Award and the Irish Children's Book of the Year.

ideal para iniciar a tu hijo en la lectura (tu a él o el mismo, según edad y avance) en inglés.
Tiene poco vocabulario y lleva sus contrarios. Permite hacer preguntas simples y que el niño responda.
Y el cuento es precio, nos encanta tanto que aun lo leemos!

lo compramos para mi hija de 18 meses, meses después sigue siendo uno de sus libros favoritos. El valor de seguir luchando por lo que quieres es lo que más nos gusta a los mayores. Las tapas y hojas son duras y difíciles de romper, acabado con brillo por lo que tampoco se mancha con facilidad, incluso se puede pasar un paño húmedo. El nuestro lleva mucho trote y ya tiene alguna marca, pero es de muy buena calidad. Los dibujos son sencillos, muy fáciles de entender incluso para niños menores de 2 años y al tener poco texto y muy concreto no aburre a los más pequeños. Mi hija juega a atrapar las estrellas.

Hay varias opciones de encuadernación. Yo compré el libro de cartón y es de muy buena calidad, tapas muy duras y páginas de cartón resistente. De tamaño es algo mayor que un palmo, unos 20 x 20 cm. Las ilustraciones son simples pero bonitas, del estilo de éste autor, con colores muy bien elegidos. La historia tiene siempre un toque de optimismo al final. Las frases son cortas, un par de frases por cada dos páginas, en algunas algo más. El vocabulario es sencillo a mi parecer.
Compré el libro en una oferta por 4 euros. Los libros de Oliver Jeffers suelen ser caros.

Oliver Jeffers is a creative, brilliant author that really shows his amazing imagination through his books. The beautiful child-like innocence and awe we used to have is something he perfectly portrays in his writing and illustrations.

My dad had multiple heart attacks a few years ago and I felt that pain of almost losing someone. I was honestly convinced he wouldn't survive. It was painful and reading this book brought back all those memories. Yet, it also gave me this sense of... you know what? It's hard to describe the feeling it gave me but I know it was a warm, comforting feeling.

It made me realise that while losing someone is, indeed, horrible but shutting yourself away in a protective shell doesn't help the situation nor is it something that person would ever want.

I saw myself as that girl. I live at the seaside, my dad and I are very creative and we are very close. When my dad was in the ICU having his second heart attack, I felt myself shutting down. My heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest and I just wanted it to stop. I would have done the same thing as this girl had my dad died. And I don't think I would have been as lucky as finding someone "small and still curious about the world" like she had.

All in all, it's a beautiful story that I'll forever be reading. I could see this as a good way to teach children about rather heavy subjects such as depression, anxiety, loss and mourning.

When my mum and/or dad dies, I'll be sure to not put my heart in a bottle and will, instead, accept those feelings of loss and pain. I will get through it, and when I do, I'll make sure to treasure every memory I have of them and tell myself that they are not truly dead, because they'll live long in the memories I have of them.

Gosh, I must end this review now before I start bawling my eyes out.

I thought this would be an exciting adventure story about a boy going into space in a rocket to catch a star - which would have been great for my 4yo son. Instead the story is about a boy waiting around all day from sunrise to sunset for the stars to appear and then trying to "catch" the reflection of one in the sea.

I would go as far as to say that the cover is extremely misleading about the story. If the return window hadn't closed I would be returning it to Amazon.

Perhaps I've missed some deeper meaning but it was pretty boring. Additionally the art style was fairly bland and not to my taste.

Beautiful story I purchased for the children i work with (aged 2-3). It has wonderful illustrations and text which both hold the attention of the children and from which they can follow independently after listening to the story.

The children in my setting loved the story, they are big fans of the nursery rhyme Twinkle twinkle little star, so I knew they would be interested in this.

This would make a perfect story for bedtimes, to cuddle up with your little one and share. It is an easy, quick read and I’d say Early years children would enjoy it mostly but it would also make a great book for young readers too.

This is another wonderful story by Oliver Jeffers! I’ve used this story for teaching topics of space with very young children as well as recount. I prefer ‘The Way Back Home’ actually as it involves friendships but this is still a great story about determination and persistence which are also great things to be able to discuss with children.
