Former special-forces Vietnam Veteran John Rambo(Sylvester Stallone) now lives on the ranch he'd grown-up at, long since retired from his days as a reluctant-war-hero who'd dealt in death to enemies.
He lives at the ranch with his friend Maria
(Adriana Barraza) and her granddaughter Gabrielle (Yvette
Monreal) who he treated and looked upon as a daughter.
A bright but inquisitive sole who is curious about her real father who
in truth, she knew little of.
Against the wishes of her grandmother and John Rambo Gabrielle
with the help of a friend in Mexico will look up her father,
but will meet rejection.
Her friend to console Gabrielle takes her to a local club to
cheer her up, however, Gabrielle is abducted by a Mexican-Cartel
who deal in prostitution.
Rambo after being told Gabrielle is missing will travel into Mexico
to try and find her.
With help, he locates where she along with others have been enslaved, but is overwhelmed by sheer numbers, beaten, cut and left in a heap, the Cartel should have killed him?
With help from Carmen who's sister had also been enslaved he recovers, some days later he'll attempt to get Gabrielle away from the clutches of the cartel.
She had been badly treated after his earlier attempt to locate her, now dosed up with drugs, Rambo tries to take her home, she'll not make it.
Rambo will now turn back the hands of time to exact revenge, he'll attack them on their territory which entices them in numbers to seek him out at his ranch where with all the skills he'd learnt a few surprises await them.
Okay, an ageing 'Sly' reliving his iconic role of yester-year may make you think twice about viewing this one, although predictable the graphic and gritty action, especially at the end of the film, makes it well worth viewing.
(In my opinion the first in the 5 movie series FIRST BLOOD far and away the best of them)

Rambo: Last Blood sees John as a sort of uncle to a family friends daughter. Her mother is dead and her father is a dead beat living in Mexico. The young lady decides in all her wisdom that she needs to talk to him for closure. This results in her being kidnapped and put into circulation as a drugged up slave. John takes it on himself to get her back. One thing leads to another and it boils down to a great rampage of revenge.
When the movie was released, it was panned by every movie reviewer out there. The usual soy boy over sensitive mummy boy types thought it was racist and xenophobic for reasons completely oblivious to me. The movie is a nice easy revenge plot. The bad guys have little personality and the movie does a great job making you want to see their end. This of course leads to a brutal twenty five minute battle where John dismantles these people piece by piece... literally. If you're so ignorant to the world that you sympathise with a murdering drug pushing pimp just because he's Mexican, you've got bigger issues than a new Rambo movie and need to do some reading of real world events.
From a technical side, this is a very competently made movie. There are plenty of great sweeping shots of the country side. The more downtrodden areas looking as filthy and scummy as you'd think. There's a nice range of colours and sharpness in the image. The make up and effects work is really well done. I particularly love the way that trench scenes were shot. It really made the film tense. The audio was also pretty good. The 2.0 and 5.1 audio tracks were well mixed. The surround was immersive and added to the tension of the film.
Rambo: Last Blood might not be the best in the series. But it's a nice short film that knows what it wants to do and does it well. John Rambo is a good sympathetic character, you can't help but dislike the lead bad guys (OMG RACISTZ!!!) and seeing them square off at the end was great fun. If you like a good simple action movie with Sylvester Stallone keeping up his intimidating presence, this is easily a buy. It's not as good as the original movie or the 2008 film but holds its own as a fun piece of cinema. We don't get enough movies like this now.
