I ordered a 2-3 for a 2 year old. I was hoping it would be big. The pants themselves seem to be an accurate 3T size, but the elastic in the waist is so tight that it didn't fit around my grandson. The materials seem to be good quality, and the previous rainsuit we had from this company was fine, so I ended up taking the stitching out of a few inches of the front of the waist, cutting out about 3 inches elastic, and sewing the fabric back down flat. It fits fine now and will stretch enough for growth.
The cuffs are not elastisized but have a snap. The snap as placed is way too small to fasten around a rubber boot of a 2 year old. I'm going to have to remove the snap and put in some elastic.
They're nice pants and seem to be holding up under a lot of mud, rocks, scrambling, and falling. To me they were worth the trouble, but if you don't sew, these might not be the pants for your kid.
These pants do not have a waterproof breathable membrane like Gore-Tex, E-vent, or pertex etc. These are waterproof, not breathable in the least. They are waterproof.
I gave these a high rating for durability. As a light-duty material goes, this is durable. If you want your kids to roll around in a bramble patch or skateboard on their knees, these are not going to last.
Pants seem to be as described. A basic thin shell splash pant. Elastic waist, and straight leg openings. I considered ordering the size 12, but sized up to the 14 to make sure it would fit over a layer of thick track pants. Glad I sized up, but still small. The waist is very narrow. I don't know many 12-14 year olds who are this skinny. I'd love it if Mountain Hardware would make a more generous fit both in the legs and in the waist. I'm not talking about plus-sizes, just a decent comfortable fit.
These are extremely poor quality. My 4 year old had them on for less than an hour and both snaps on the cuffs broke. The strain of a few trips down the slide at the playground was too much for the cheap plastic snaps. Can’t comment on the quality of the rest of the product, but I would not recommend them and would not buy them again. Velcro or elastic at the cuff would be a better choice.
Update this to say that I contacted the seller and they immediately sent a replacement pair. The new pair seems to have a better snap mechanism, so I’ve increased my review from 1 to 3 stars.
Bought these for my seven year old. They kept him dry for a couple of rainy days (though as many note, there are open pocket-sized slits with no pockets that are perplexing) but maybe the third time he wore them he took a high speed tumble off his scooter and tore a hole at the knee. Not super durable pants, I've gone and bought him something more expensive and tougher. Maybe these would be okay if you don't have a super active rough and tumble kid.
The fit was as expected, however I thought there would have been more velcro in the adjustable area at the bottom of the pants. Instead, there's only a small square inch of velcro for us to adjust the bottom of the pants. Thus, this made the material slip past my daughter's feet, dragging the material to the floor, which resulted in multiple rips at the bottom of the pants. I figured it would have been more durable than this.
